Indians are the largest community in Oman by consisting 20 % of the whole population. The Indian schools have large number of students in the country so that Indian could provide education with contrast of their values.
The three schools in the central city that are already under pressure for the growing number of students and decide to construct six more school have come under new challenge. The new issue is of transport that is provided to the children by the school authorities and charges are included in the monthly schools fee. The practice has been going on from many years.
The schools when decided to add additional security measures in transport facility, they came under pressure from the parent’s attitudes as they are not ready to pay more for these new security measures.
The parents on one hand want the transport facility to be safer and secure but the price factor that will make this possible, they are not considering.
Nearly 70 % of the parents have declined to accept the hike in fee so that new feature could be added in transport buses.
The chairman of the board of directors, of Indian schools in Oman said that affordability is the factor that hindering the implementation of new policy in transport. He said that 70 % are not convinced that these features are the need of the hours to make the travel of children safe and secure.
The chairman said many changes are needed so that the existing transport system could be improved.
The chairman also said that transporters can’t implement the new safety and security features in the transport as it will cost those more and the current price that they are receiving is less.
A transporter also talked to the media and said that they are ready to implement the regulation and policies of royal Oman police in the transport but schools should call a meeting with us and parents, so that we could convince parents about the need of new security features and the why this extra cost is beneficial for the safety of their child.
While the parents have conflicting views, some say that school has recently hiked the fees and it is the responsibility of the school to pay for this new safety feature. While some are of the view that we should not compromise the security of our children.
Under the new policy, the children would be seated in the buses according to the seating capacity and no over seating would be allowed.
The schools must call parents meeting with the transporters so that the situation could be explained to them.
