Some week earlier, reports came out about the commercialization of books in some private schools and education department also been informed. The education department sent them the notices to stop such activities but they did not act and the practiced remained continue. The parent complained again to the education department and the officials have recently conducted a check on schools.
The check was made on the allegations of the deliberated commercialization of books and sale of non-NCERT books.
Ten schools have been inspected including some of the elite schools of Chandigarh.
The five member inspection committee consisting of education department officials and schools teachers inspected the schools and questioned the schools management over the sale of books, uniform and other related items on school premises.
The director of schools education Rubunderjit Singh Brar said that these inspection raids have taken place after the complaint lodged by parents about the commercialization of books, uniform and stationary. He said that after sending the show cause notices and receiving the answer of schools – the department actually decided to check the situation on real ground.
He also briefed that in coming weeks, more inspections will be made after consulting the joint investigation committee made by central board of secondary education.
The president of independent associations of schools HS Mamik showed it’s uncomforting for the inspection raids and alleged this as interference in the private schools issue. He said that when parents admitted their children to schools, they made a conscious decision and they were known to the fact that education here would be different as compared to government schools.
He took a jibe at education department and said that education department does not have the right to dictate them about what is right and what is wrong. He added that this kind of attitude will create obstacles in the smooth efficiency of private schools.
The president said that schools had issued circular to parents and gave them the opportunity to purchase the books either themselves or with the help of schools.
He cleared that the books are sold on standard rate and no commercialization has taken place by school managements.
The government interference is must as the fee hikes were already panicked the parents but this commercialization adds fuel to fire that’s why the parents have to approach the education department.
The government can’t let them free to do whatever they want – as it is the matter of future generation and parents have to do many other spending. These private schools on the name efficiency are not doing justice with the parents.
Fee hike can be understood on the name of perfect teaching facility. Purchasing of books, stationary and uniform is just the filling of pockets. In European countries private schools are under strict check and can’t even imagine doing this.
The private schools throughout county must be checked for these irregularities and if found, some kind of punishment should be suggested to eradicate this practice.
